Brett Powell - Assistant Program Director/Westwood Assistant Coach

As a player growing up in Miami, FL I spent my entire middle school and high school years playing Lacrosse on the defensive side of the field. Transitioning to college it was 3 years of playing time at the club level as a LSM(long stick middie). As a coach, I support and drive effectiveness in my teams on a daily basis. I believe in a full transparency leadership model and provide constructive feedback to my team(s) to foster an environment of trust. I moved to Austin in November of 2020 and as of the fall of 2023 was brought on to be a JV/Varsity defensive assistant for Westwood High School. I intend to add value in this program where there are opportunities to do so and looking forward to hitting milestones of growth within our organization.

Jim Stanley - Skills Coach

Coach Stanley has a passion for lacrosse that started when he played in middle school in
Connecticut, and that drive and passion for the “fastest game on two feet” has never stopped. He
played club lacrosse for two years at the University of Richmond in Virginia, and started coaching a
middle school lacrosse team at Town & Country in 2006 after recruiting several players from his
son’s soccer team.

After coaching his son’s team to three winning seasons, when his son started playing for Westwood, he
coached his daughter’s youth lacrosse team at Town & Country for two years. He then joined the
Westwood Girls coaching staff as an Assistant Coach and Head JV coach for seven years. For three years
in a row, the Westwood Girls JV team was undefeated in district games and his daughter was
named Varsity All State her senior year.

Coach Stanley also leads lacrosse PE sessions at local elementary schools to get kids to learn about
lacrosse and join the Tomahawks.

Jim retired after a 30-year Sales and Marketing career with 3M Company (they make
those great Post-It notes!) and is a USA Lacrosse Level 1 Certified Coach.  In addition to coaching
lacrosse, he also volunteers at his church and plays golf.
